What is Ketamine?

 Ketamine was first developed as an anesthetic back in 1962. It was used in surgery for animals, children and adults for years before it began to be replaced by other types of anesthesia drugs. Later, the drug took on somewhat of a reputation of a “party” drug but it is not an easy drug to obtain.

More than 15 years ago, the first clinical study came out showing that it could be used to treat severe depression in adults. Since then, the research has been replicated and shown that IV infusions of Ketamine can, indeed, help some patients begin to feel better.

Unlike some of the other drugs on the market to treat depression, patients reported almost no side effects and alleviated depressive symptoms and anxiety.  

How Ketamine Treatments Are Administered

When our patients come for their schedule ketamine infusion, the process is simple, discreet and comfortable. We simply escort you back to a nicely decorated room and ask you to sit in a reclining chair. At that point, we administer the IV Ketamine which takes approximately 45 minutes. Typically, patients are required to come for a total of 10 treatments and any booster treatments needed after that. Relief from depression, anxiety or chronic pain can be as simple as that.
